Sponsored Agents let someone open a conversation with an AI representative of a business from an ad in ChatGPT. As checked on September 27, 2026, the format is available only to selected advertisers in a limited alpha. OpenAI says it is not accepting early-access requests. Seeing the format as a user does not mean it is available in your advertising account. See the official availability guidance.
For most businesses, the useful next step is to prepare accurate answers to customer questions, while treating access as unresolved. Do not build a launch promise around a format you have not been offered.
How the experience is described
OpenAI's September 16 announcement describes an optional, clearly labeled business-sponsored conversation that a person can start after seeing an ad. They can ask follow-up questions and use a link to visit the business's website. The announcement identifies the initial test as involving selected advertisers in the United States.
This business conversation is separate from the person's original ChatGPT conversation and from ChatGPT's independent answers. That distinction matters when explaining the idea to colleagues: the business is represented inside a sponsored experience, not given control of the assistant's ordinary response.
What the announcement does not establish for your business
A product announcement is not an access confirmation. Do not assume that ordinary Ads Manager eligibility includes every experimental format. Our regional access guide explains how to check general availability, but it does not establish Sponsored Agents access.
The public sources linked above also should not be treated as your implementation contract. Before committing to a specific build, you would need confirmed participation and current instructions about setup, supported content, controls, reporting and responsibilities. Keep those as open questions until the relevant details are provided.
A prudent project note has two separate sections: what the public documentation confirms, and what the team still needs to learn. This prevents a concept presentation from quietly becoming a promised delivery date.
Prepare useful business knowledge now
You do not need experimental ad access to improve the information customers rely on. Start with questions that repeatedly arrive before a purchase or enquiry. Organize the answers around decisions rather than promotional slogans.
- Fit: who is the offer suitable for, and when is another option more appropriate?
- Details: which specifications or service boundaries affect the decision?
- Terms: where can a customer find current prices, delivery information and policies?
- Evidence: which public page or maintained internal record supports each answer?
- Ownership: who corrects the information when something changes?
Keep a date and an owner beside information that changes frequently. An accurate explanation that becomes stale can create more confusion than a short answer that directs someone to a maintained source.
This is our content-readiness framework. It is not an official Sponsored Agents onboarding requirement or a description of settings currently available to every advertiser.
A fictional example: a compact desk retailer
Suppose a small retailer often hears, “Will this desk fit a narrow room?” Its preparation work could gather the actual dimensions, clearance considerations and a link to the relevant product page. A second common question might concern delivery coverage or whether assembly is offered.
A useful answer would explain the supported facts and acknowledge what the business does not know about the customer's room. It should not invent a fit guarantee, a delivery date or a discount to keep the conversation moving.
The retailer could maintain a simple answer record: customer question, approved factual answer, supporting source, last checked date and owner. That record would also improve its website and human support process. The example is fictional and does not imply that the retailer has access to Sponsored Agents.
Plan what should happen when an answer is uncertain
Before adopting any business-facing conversational experience, decide which questions need a human or a current source. For example, a request for an exception to a published policy should not be resolved by inventing a new policy.
Write down a sensible next step for unsupported questions. That might be directing the customer to a current product page or an existing contact route. Verify what the actual product supports before promising a specific handoff mechanism.
Test the proposed answers with ordinary customer questions, ambiguous wording and requests that fall outside the offer. Record whether the answer was accurate and whether the next step was useful. These preparation exercises can reveal gaps without claiming any particular behavior from a platform you have not configured.
Keep the business case modest
An optional conversation may be interesting, but interest alone is not evidence of qualified demand. If the format becomes available to your business, define the outcome you want to evaluate and confirm what measurement is supported at that time.
Do not invent engagement, conversion or revenue expectations from a promotional demonstration. Use our campaign measurement guide as a way to frame questions about visits and business actions, not as a claim that every metric applies to this alpha format.

Where GPTAd fits
GPTAd is an independent product in development. Its current preview does not provide Sponsored Agents access, deploy a business representative in ChatGPT or connect to a live advertising account. Use the official sources above for availability updates.
GPTAd is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. The original AI-generated cover illustrates an optional conversation concept; it is not a product screenshot or an indication of general availability.
