Want Google and the AIs to treat you as the expert on something? You don't get there with one great article. You get there by covering the whole topic.
Picture it. Write one post on "email marketing" and you're just another voice in the crowd. But write the main guide on email marketing, plus pieces on subject lines, send times, deliverability, automation and templates, all linked together, and suddenly you look like the place to learn it. That's topical authority.
Pillar topic: Email marketing
- Subject lines
- Send times
- Deliverability
- Automation
- Templates
Both Google and the AIs reward this, because depth tells them you know your stuff, instead of writing one thing and bouncing. The main page (the hub) goes after the big term, the smaller pieces (the spokes) catch all the specific searches, and the links between them say "this all belongs together".
Simple to describe, harder to do: pick a topic you want to own, list every question a customer has about it, and answer them one by one, each linking back to the hub. Do that across a few topics and you stop chasing keywords one at a time. You start owning whole corners of your market.
