You've probably noticed AI doesn't quote at random. Ask it the same question twice and the same few names keep coming up. So what makes it pick them?
A few things, and none of them are magic:
- Clarity. It grabs clean, direct answers it can lift without rewriting. Vague waffle gets skipped.
- Trust. It leans on sites it already sees as credible, the same authority signals that help you rank on Google.
- Being talked about. AIs lean hard on places like Reddit and review sites. Get mentioned there and you turn up in more answers.
- Freshness. An up-to-date page beats one that smells like 2021.
Notice the overlap with Google: trust and clarity matter in both. The big extra for AI is getting mentioned around the web, beyond your own site.
